Student Workshop
The student architectural workshop 'Sustainable Design for Green Spaces' is scheduled to take place from December 3rd to 7th, 2025.
To address the problems caused by the climate crisis, the preservation and expansion of urban open and green spaces are particularly important. At the same time, modern international practice clearly demonstrates that sustainable principles are also essential in the planning and maintenance of green spaces. Proper selection of plants, utilization of rainwater for irrigation, and permeable surfaces, urban gardening not only mitigates environmental risks but also helps strengthen neighborhood connections.
Therefore, the workshop aims to deepen knowledge of sustainable solutions and participatory practices in the development of urban green spaces, and to encourage small initiatives through experimental design, ecological responsibility, and citizen engagement that could become the foundation for larger changes.
As part of the event, students from the Architecture programme at Ilia State University will work to transform an open space near Building #2 in the Vaja-Pshavela 6th Quarter. They will prepare visions for the reorganization of the space and design a sustainable irrigation system.
During the vision development stage, a consultation with the local community is planned for 6th December at 18:00 at the Live Laboratory office. Residents of Važa-Phšavelas #2 block and interested members of the public will be presented with the developed ideas by students, and their opinions and comments will be considered. Additionally, the best international examples will be shared. We would be pleased if the residents of Važa-Phšavelas Quarter 6 actively participate in discussions about the project and its implementation.
The Tbilisi Office of the Heinrich Böll Foundation supports the event.
